Microsoft Azure Symbol / Icon Set Download – Visio stencil, PNG, and SVG

Updated Aug. 28, 2019 – The latest version of this download is v5.6.2019 and was updated May 15, 2019. If you already have these templates you should update to the latest.

The Microsoft Azure, Cloud and Enterprise Symbol / Icon Set is a free download from Microsoft which provides a set of resources to represent features of and systems that use Microsoft Azure and related cloud and on-premises technologies.

The download comes with Visio stencils, along with PNG and SVG images.

You can download the icon set here.

Install Instructions

Download the ZIP file by clicking the Download button and saving the file to your hard disk.
Remove any previous versions of the symbol set so you can avoid duplicate and deprecated symbols.
Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a separate directory. If you intend to use the Visio stencils, we suggest the My Shapes directory.
Open the instructions and read it to get started.
Open the .vss, vsd or .svg files with Microsoft Visio. Open the PNG directory by extracting the contents to a folder and browsing the contents of the folder. Drag and drop or open a PNG file in your drawing application. Load SVGs into any app that accepts them. Visio will open SVGs.

Note: The website for the download mentions support for PowerPoint. Their originally was a PowerPoint file that came with the file download but that has since been deprecated as it’s just as easy to add images to PowerPoint

Not sure why the icons for some of the services are not present in the stencil provided by Microsoft. for example icons for DevOps – Pipeline and others I could not find. Am I missing something?

  Those icons are unfortunately not kept up to date. There are some tools you can use to pull the icons off the Azure portal. Is there a specific icon you’re looking for? I might have all the Azure DevOps one if that interests you.

    Thanks for response. Can you please let me know which tool can be used for pulling the icons. – Architects are sales person for any platform, and visual (architecture diagrams) are the key artifacts. And if this is not solid and common vocab then it becomes difficult. So I believe Microsoft should consider this.
    Anyway if could share DevOps – Pipeline, Data brick and any other new services, that would be great.

    Add the following Chrome extension (also works in the new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/amazing-icon-downloader/kllljifcjfleikiipbkdcgllbllahaob/
    
    Then go to the Azure portal and the icons will be available to download. I’ll write up a blog post in the next day or so about how to do this in more detail. I hope this helps.

FYI the download link has been updated, and now only contains SVG versions of the icons.

Hello Callon,
How to keep the SVG’s shapes into my shape favourite, like the one you are presenting in the article, I am just able to open it based on your steps but cant collect them into my shape!

when i click Azure Visio icon they open in Microsoft edge Browser. I want them to open in PNG/Jpeg etc. How to solve this Problem.

  Check to see if the image your clicking on is an SVG, this usually opens in the browser. You can convert the SVG to PNG or JPEG if you like using a number of free tools.
